It’s kinda funny how the creation of this MAD came about. I was inspired by Hironori Tanaka’s “uncredited contribution” to the finale of Lazarus with his jaw dropping debris… all to find out that scene wasn’t by him at all lmao. Still though, Hironori Tanaka (aka TNK) is known for a few things: mainly his effects animation and the sheer amount of shows he’s been on. It’s kinda insane the amount of work he’s put out in his career and I’ll be honest, I did not look through all 40+ pages of his entries on Sakugabooru to make this MAD. Still though, I think I was able to highlight a lot of the things people like about his work in this MAD. I think I prefer a lot of his older works as they have this rough (in a good way) webgen-y quality to it. I’m not sure if his stuff nowadays is cleaner because he’s changed styles overtime or if he’s too strapped for time to go all out on his contributions. Still though, he nowadays not only animates, but also directs episodes with his own vision, and he’s made some pretty killer contributions to Jujutsu Kaisen and Chainsaw Man. Overall, while I wouldn’t call him one of my absolute favorite animators, he’s still no doubt one of the strongest animators in the industry, which is why I wanted to get around to making this MAD.
TNK has animated a lot of battle scenes, so I had to go the hype route for the song selection. My immediate first choice was “ANSWER” by frederic and Keina Suda, a hype rock collaboration by two of my favorite artists and it ended up working pretty well. My only problem in editing was that there were so many clips to work with that I kinda didn’t know where to start at first, but eventually things started to come together. There were so many clips I wanted to highlight though that I had to pick a second song. Enter “Michi wo Yuke” by Ryokuoushoku Shakai. If you’ve seen my previous MADs, you know I’m a sucker for Ryokushaka’s songs (I think this is my 4th song I’ve used from them) and this is my favorite of their’s alongside “merry-go-round”. It’s hype enough that I thought it could work and I always thought this song would’ve been dope for the Urusei Yatsura reboot (which TNK animated an amazing cut on) so that worked out good as well.
