The final fight in my Ori and the Will of the Wisps play through on hard difficulty. Fighting Shriek at Willows End.
The fight has multiple phases. With each phase having a checkpoint, as long as you don't exit the game and reload.
Once again, I did not beat this boss first go, it took me numerous attempts, so the video is a splice of the successful fights!
My loadout of spirit shards are as follows:-
Overflow
Catalyst(upgraded)
Resilience(30%)
Triple Jump
Last Stand
Deflector(This shard can be devastating if used at the right time. It can one shot her in Phase 3 on Hard Difficulty)
Overflow, any excess energy gained will be transferred to health.
Catalyst to replenish energy through melee damage.
Resilience for a bit of damage reduction.
Triple jump is used throughout the fight whenever necessary.
Last Stand for the extra damage when low on health!
Deflector, this is useful any time that Shriek releases projectiles that are getting too close to Ori and are unlikely to hit Shriek on the return from bash, we can just bat them away with Spirit Edge. Also, anytime you can get close to Shrieks' face when she is about to release a large amount of projectiles you can instantly deflect them back at her inflicting huge damage. This can be seen during the last phase of the fight, right at the end. The fight is over after this due to all of her projectiles being deflected in front of her face.
Tips to anyone that wants them, the majority of these can be seen in the video:-
Phase 1:-
If Shriek raises either Leg she is about to slam it down which will send blue shockwave flames in both directions.
If she raises one of her claws she is about to side swipe toward Ori, if she raises both claws she is about to slam straight down on the ground below her.
If she opens both claws she is about to screech.
If she shakes her head she is about to launch a beam attack from her beak.
Anytime she leaps into the air a number of attacks can happen:-
If the area near Ori illuminates Shriek is about to slam down on the ground(this could be followed by her screeching attack).
If she hovers, slowly flapping her wings she is about to release a spread of projectiles.
If you see her zip by in the background she is about to do a very fast fly by parallel to the ground, so Launch Ori in the air!
Phase 2(after the escape sequence):-
Right at the start of phase 2 Shriek will land on the left hand side and do a screech attack.
Anytime she leaps into the air a number of attacks can happen:-
If you see her zip by in the background she is about to do a very fast fly by, this is the same as Phase 1 but also, if she zips by at a diagonal she is about to do a diagonal fly by. Dark clouds will highlight her path, Launch yourself away from her path.
If you see her approaching from the background towards Ori, Launch straight up to avoid her.
If she hovers slowly flapping her wings and all of the ground illuminates Launch Ori high in the air.
If she hovers slowly flapping her wings and then turns her head to the side slightly she is about to do a beam attack from one side to the other. Move away from the beam and launch Ori high if required.
If she hovers slowly flapping her wings, rises straight up off screen, then the ground illuminates she is about to do 3 consecutive ground slams. Look out for the illuminated ground each time and dodge.
If she lands in the background, opens her wings and screeches, blue and purple projectiles are about to rain down. Avoid these however you like, the purple ones will move in the direction of Ori but are still easily avoided.
If she hovers on the left or right hand side she is about to release numerous projectiles from her beak. I never actually tried it at this point, but Deflector should allow Ori to inflict massive damage if you deflect them into her. You would have to Launch Ori and be right in front of her face to do this(I saved this move for the end!).
After any of her air attacks she might land on the ground, keep her head low then screech. She breathes in just before, it looks like faint blue smoke heading towards her beak.
Right at the end of Phase 2, a split will form in the middle of the platform. Take care and live though this for a brief moment to move onto Phase 3!
Phase 3:-
Right at the start of this phase do a full heal.
Shriek will land in the background and blue projectiles will rain down again. They won't stop this time. Very early on in this phase she will tear down the platform, so Ori will need to use the blue projectiles to remain in the air by bashing off of them. Keep Ori in the air while Shriek is zipping about the place. After a while she will tire and hover(usually on the right side of the screen). Get Ori over there as soon as possible and keep hitting her in the face with Spirit Edge. She will try to release a wave of projectiles but Deflector will bounce them straight back at her. The fight is over!!!
I don't think there was any buzzing this time, Poggers!
