Two people killed, several injured in shooting near Salt Lake meetinghouse

Police have not yet made any arrests in the ongoing search for the suspects of a shooting that killed two people and injured six others near a Salt Lake City church.

Officials said two people were killed in a shooting on Wednesday night outside of a church building near the corner of 700 North and Redwood Road.

They identified the victims on Thursday as Sione Vatuvei, 38, and Vaea Tulikihihifo, 46.

The deadly incident took place while a funeral service was being held in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse. Police said the shooting is not believed to be a targeted attack against the faith.

Police believe there was a dispute between people attending the funeral, which led to a possible exchange of gunfire outside the building.
