Facing oversupply & engorgement? It’s usually just a temporary challenge, Mama! 💪 Here’s some tips to help you through:
1. Block feeding: 🤱 Feed from only one breast per feeding to regulate milk production. Gentle massage ensures a balanced feed for your little one. It’s a game-changer to avoid overstimulating both breasts.
2. Laid back breastfeeding: 🌿 Try this nurturing position for relief. Let gravity assist in managing overactive letdown. Baby lying above the breast (tummy to tummy) can make a significant difference.
3. Clamp hold: ✂️ Use your two fingers as “scissors” and clamp down on breast while feeding to slow the flow and make it more comfortable for baby. You can also take baby off at letdown and then reattach afterward.
4. Hand expression before feeding: 🚿 No pumping within the first 4-6 weeks unless donating. Ease engorgement with a warm shower and strategic hand expression. Be mindful not to overdo it; moderation is key to prevent excess production.
5. Avoid galactagogues: 🚫 Watch out for lactation-promoting foods and herbs. Limit intake to maintain control. Skip herbs like fenugreek, blessed thistle, and red raspberry leaf to avoid overproduction.
6. Give it time: ⏰ Understand that oversupply is part of the early journey. Most moms experience it to be sure there’s enough milk for baby. Trust the process, and many will self-regulate without extra steps.
Embrace the journey; your body, boobs, and baby need time to adjust. 💖 Trust the process, and use these aids for a smoother ride through engorgement, breast fullness, and oversupply. 🌟
