Louise tells the story of a young Parisian dressmaker who longs to marry her suitor, Julien , but is frustrated by the jealous demands of her parents. She manages to leave them and live with him, and In this aria from Act Three she sings of her newly found happiness. When her father is dying she is obliged to return to her parents once more, but at the end of the opera she finally breaks free. The opera dates from 1900.
