Like an apex predator sensing the slightest opportunity, Kelly Slater was ready to pounce as soon as it was apparent the guy in the opening scene wasn’t going to make the section. He didn’t get a bunch of waves, but there’s still a buzz whenever he’s in the lineup.
It was the first swell we’ve had in a few days, so there were plenty of people in the water. Main Peak was in good form before the tide started dropping and the focus shifted to the Racetrack in the early afternoon.
By the time the tide bottomed out at around 4pm, the best of it was over with just a handful of surfers left to salvage bits and pieces.
