Giant plasma tube powered by digitally controlled h-bridge and Tesla-like transformer. Transformer uses a series-resonant capacitor along with some secondary-side resonance with the plasma tube capacitance to achieve the final 10-12kV. The core of the transformer uses ferrite toroids in a novel manner, to boost the coil inductances and bring the resonant frequency into practical range while keeping the transformer compact and efficient. The bridge is switched at a variable frequency (preferably always with a positive phase lead in voltage vs current which happens above the resonance freq in this case) to modulate the power. The controller also provides voltage/current limits to avoid transformer death with disconnected tube.
