In the last couple of years, the prison has became a victim of more than one arson fire. Many videos of the prison popped up on the internet exposing it to a lot of explorers. Very quickly did the prison start suffering, there was way more traffic there than ever before. With all the fires, destruction, and even kids locking themselves in the cells, the state decided that they needed to take action. 24 hour surveillance, 7 days a week. Live cameras. Police patrolled this place like it was an active maximum security prison. The city finally came down to the decision to repurpose the building. Volunteers helped pick up trash, sweep, clean up broken glass, clear out rubble. It's starting to look up from here. This beautiful structure is being saved from destruction. Plus it's becoming Joliet's newest prized possession. What the future holds for this has endless possibilities. There is talk about a hotel and maybe a bar! Would you like to visit and take a tour?
