‘Powering Innovation: How India’s Energy Startups Are Shaping A Greener Future’ | India Today Summit

At the India Today Energy Summit, climate tech entrepreneur Tanya Singhal outlined the investment landscape for India's renewable energy sector. She stated that 'climate tech as a solution typically is a cycle which takes seven to ten years', emphasizing the need for 'patient capital' from investors. Singhal highlighted the core principles for second-generation entrepreneurs are 'frugal innovations and patience'. Addressing investor concerns, she noted that in India, 'not a single PP that has been signed has not been paid for'. The discussion also covered the importance of blended finance structures, supported by development agencies and government incentives like the PLI and VGF schemes, to de-risk projects. Furthermore, Singhal pointed to the growing role of AI in creating an 'operational efficiency layer' for grid management, predictive maintenance, and energy trading, opening new opportunities for startups in the capital-intensive industry.
