DPS began the Legacy Run in 2008, where Trooper Trainees run from DPS headquarters to the State Capitol and Peace Officers Memorial in downtown Austin during the final week of their Training Academy. The Legacy Run culminates with a Patch Ceremony, and it’s truly a bonding journey for participants. It represents the journey that Trooper Trainees go through on their way to becoming Texas State Troopers, and it forges a bond between them.
