Futurism, the artistic movement of the early twentieth century, is known for about two or three things depending on who you ask. To some it was this unabashed celebration of the future and all that came with it while rebirthing the cultures they came from. Others saw the genre as the new avant-garde, challenging the ways of old with art that broke free of constricting mediums and ideas much like their contemporaries. Or lastly, in a more historical lens, they were utopian idealists who would become part of larger totalitarian states in one form or another until they were no longer needed as artistic assets. What all three will tell you is that futurism was a movement that wanted to go beyond what was modern in celebration of a brave new world.
But while these are broad strokes on an artistic movement, and the iceberg of futurism is way deeper than what this video covers (deep enough to drive me of all people to madness), it's the people behind the movement that gave it such depth and a popular image. So buckle up, because we're going as fast as a 1910s automobile can take us in this episode of Subculture Shock.
Disclaimer (because one isn't enough): We are not a group of professional researchers, at best we're people interested in the world around them and perpetual college students. We encourage all out viewers to use these videos as a stepping-stone to introduce themselves to whatever subculture the video above covers.
