Kenny Dorham (1924–1972) was an influential American jazz trumpeter, composer, and bandleader, celebrated for his lyrical tone and sophisticated improvisation. A key figure in the bebop and hard bop eras, Dorham worked with jazz legends like Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Art Blakey. He was also a member of the original Jazz Messengers and the quintet co-led by Sonny Rollins and Max Roach.
Dorham composed timeless jazz standards, including "Blue Bossa," a staple of jazz repertoire. Though he was overshadowed by more prominent trumpeters of his time, Dorham's artistry and contributions to jazz remain highly respected. His recordings as a leader, such as Quiet Kenny and Una Mas, highlight his melodic creativity and understated brilliance.
