The ANC Secretary-General Fikile Mbalula's bombshell on the Nkandla saga has caused an uproar within the party, overshadowing the ANC's 112th anniversary celebrations. Mbalula admitted that the ANC lied to protect its former president Jacob Zuma in the upgrading of his Nkandla homestead. This has sparked outrage from the former police minister Nathi Nhleko, who was at the forefront of the multi-million rand security upgrades at Zuma's homestead, refuting Mbalula's claims.
In a leaked audio recording, Nhleko denies that he was instructed to lie about Nkandla's 'firepool', describing Mbalula as the worst ANC Secretary General in the party's history.
