Penina is the chairperson of Kenya Champions of Justice which is a group of survivors of police abuse of power. Penina's husband Martin Koome was tortured to death by former Ruaraka Officer Commanding Station(OCS) Nahashon Mutua while in police custody. The Former powerful OCS was convicted of murder and jailed. Today Penina is using her voice to advocate for a professional police service in Kenya that upholds human rights.
