Some experiments to discover how goos the Canon PIXMA Pro-200s is at making black & white prints, how significant the dye ink metamerism is and whether the black & white print mode or color-managed workflow is best for neutrality.
Various experts and reviewers bring up ink metamerism as a potential problem with dye ink printers, but rarely demonstrate it themselves -- leaving it as an exercise to the reader. Additionally, third-party paper vendors always seem to discount the Canon black & white mode in the print driver and use a color-managed workflow, even for monochrome prints (again, without really showing what the "wrong" result looks like). So, I wanted to see this for myself -- see, how good or bad the black & white print mode actually is and how much metamerism is a problem in practice.
This video is inspired by Keith Cooper's various videos describing black and white printing on dye ink printers like the Canon Pro-200 or Epson ET-8550, such as • Black and white photo printing with the Ca... where he specifically discusses black & white printing on the Pro-200.
