Welcome to the Intercollege Culinary Arts Labs. My name is Nikolas Konstantinou and today I will prepare for you Τasty Easter Flaounes (Cypriot Cheese Pies).
Easter is the biggest celebration of Christianity. The word "Easter" means the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. It is also called "Lambri". One of the main delicacies prepared during Easter period is “Flaouna”.
The custom of "Flaouna" dates back to the 19th century and according to tradition they were prepared on Holy Saturday and then the faithfuls used to transfer them to the churches and eat them after the Resurrection. Nowadays housewives usually prepare them on Holy Thursday.
The main ingredients we use for making "Flaouna" are the special cheese and the eggs. The classic “Flaouna” contains cheese, halloumi and fresh mint!
