PSALM 72
The King and the King of Kings:
Israelite coronation prayer of a new king in the Davidic dynasty.
Not an offering Hymn
THE TITLE:
1, The title “A Psalm of Solomon”. Can be translated as “A Psalm of David to/about Solomon/ Jesus his Greater Son the Messiah”. Psalm 72:20
2, Psalm 72:20 give clue of David’s. But with the understanding that it refers to the collection of Book Two of Psalms which is separating Book Two from Book Three, with 11 psalms authored by Asaph.
3, Psalm 72 was originally composed: in 1000 BC, probably recited at coronation ceremonies held for King Rehoboam after Solomon died. 1 Kings 11:43; 12:1).
Messianic Psalm:
“The New Testament nowhere quotes it as Messianic, but this picture of the king and his realm is so close to the prophecies of; Isaiah 11:1-5 and Isaiah 60-62.

2. Peace and prosperity as an answer of the Prayer: Vs 5-7

I. Prayer for wisdom to rule in righteousness: (verses 1-4)
1.1, Asking God, to grant the king wisdom and justice. 1Kinkgs 3
1.2, King's responsibility to rule with righteousness, particularly towards the poor and oppressed.
1.3, The psalm describes the positive impact of the king's reign, including peace, prosperity, and security for all.
1.4, The king's role as a protector of the vulnerable and a destroyer of evil.
2. Peace and prosperity as an answer of the Prayer: Vs 5-7
2.1, People will fear of The Lord through the generations:

3. Prophecy of the King's Universal Dominion (verses 8-11)
2.1, Extending far and wide, encompassing distant lands and peoples.
2.2, Foreign nations bringing tribute and gifts to the king.

4. Praise for the King's Deliverance (verses 12-14)
3.1, The king's compassion for the poor and needy.
3.2, It highlights his role as a deliverer, rescuing those in distress.
3.3, The reign characterized by mercy and justice.
5. Prayer for the King's Long Life and God's Glory (verses 15-20)
4.1, The psalm concludes with a prayer for the king's long life and prosperity.
4.2, It expresses confidence in the king's reign and the ultimate glory of God.
4.3, Verses 18-20 contain a doxology, praising God for His glorious works
