You've been alive for too long. You were cursed, destined to walk the earth until it crumbled beneath your feet. No mortal soul was meant for eternal loneliness. And you couldn't run forever.
At some point, the government found out about you. At some point, someone always finds out. No matter where you go, someone sees you. Someone notices that you're not aging, not dying. And you've tried, you've made deals with governments, you've done unspeakable things just to protect yourself. It didn't matter. It never mattered. You always ended up in the same place.
A jail. A lab. Some kind of Area 51 type secret lair. Doctors in lab coats poking and prodding and using words like "remarkable". They never found out why you healed from everything, why you could never die. They never even thought to ask you. You would've told them. Magic, a witch, a curse. Of course, they wouldn't have believed you. But it did hurt that they didn't ask.
You weren't human to them. You weren't human to yourself. You were less, a shell, a husk of who you were before. Strapped to a table, experimented on, tortured. The days blurred into years into hundreds of years. You stopped trying to break out after a couple hundred attempts. You stopped resisting.
You were tired. And a part of you was hoping they would figure out why you couldn't die. Maybe they could stop it. Maybe all this pain could find a way to finally end things for you. You expected to stay in that government lab until the day you died, or until the world ended. But you didn't die. And the world didn't end. Something just.. changed.
Someone came for you.
You woke up in a car. You don't remember leaving the lab, you barely remember the alarms from the night before. There's someone driving the car. A woman. Someone, you'll soon find out, has much more in common with you than you think.
