Hello World! Welcome to another episode of My Filipino Life, where we focus on Island Life, Happiness, and Activities.
Today we took out our Going Native boat for a family fun afternoon before Typhoon Kammuri arrived (30 hours before the typhoon arrived). As you can see, the skies are overcast and there are some rain showers in the distance, but the ocean was calm and my husband and the kids wanted to swim in the warm ocean off the west coast of Tablas Island.
Where is Tablas Island?
Tablas Island is in the Province or Romblon, Philippines. It is the geographic counterpoint of the Philippines and it is one of several eco-friendly islands in the archipelago chain (Tablas, Romblon, Carabao, Sibuyan). Tablas is only 15 miles north of the World Famous Boracay Island.
Where do we begin our boating excursion from?
We anchor our Going Native boats in the Loveland Beach area.
Pier 68 is located at Loveland Beach and is a conservation appreciation pier built by an American Expat (Malcolm), designed by his Master Chef (Harold), and built by his trusty and talented crew. Pier 68 is Privately Funded and Maintained, but Malcolm shares it freely with the community, because he wants to educate people about Ocean Conservation.
In the video, you will see us walking through the mangroves. Mangroves is a natural sea sanctuary where fish are spawned and grow to larger sizes before they can enter the bigger sea. Kind of like Nemo's home in the movie "Finding Nemo".
How deep is the water we are swimming in?
I will estimate it is at most 20 feet where we are swimming. It's a nice place for snorkeling. Just a short distance West of our anchorage the water drops off and becomes a Deep Wall that is spectacular for SCUBA divers.
What did we eat on the boat?
We didn't bring any food today. Normally we bring a wide variety of Filipino Favorites, like: Pili Nuts, bananas, pineapple, turron, chicken wings, lechon baboy, pancit.
But today we brought some simple items: water and Going Native Coffee ( http://www.GoingNativeCoffee.com ).
What to Expect?
In our upcoming videos, expect to see some underwater footage, and some drone footage as well. We will also be boating and swimming on a sunnier day too.
