Halston Veer survives a zombie apocalypse that begins in his small town of Grayton. After hiding silently for 12 hours in a diner kitchen to avoid detection, he discovers the infected are evolving—mimicking voices, setting traps, and infecting animals. He travels east seeking safety, encountering other survivors including Thora (a gas station owner) and Keely (a combat medic). They find a military base overrun and abandoned. Stranded in a mountain snowstorm, they stumble upon Sanctuary—a fortified prepper compound with 300 survivors. Though temporarily safe, Halston knows nowhere is truly secure in this eerie new world where death constantly lurks closer.
