Today, Lawman Guitars is Presenting...
A beautiful and great sounding 1958 Gibson LG-1 with the original Gibson Alligator styleSoft Shell Case.
This beautiful Gibson guitar not only looks great but sounds great as well. Awesome voice on this guitar and it plays great as well. Great action still on this guitar. It certainly doesn't need a neck reset. It appears the frets are original. Some pitting in the upper cowboy chord area. A little finger divoting around the second fret. It was was well used and played. Still plays great and sounds wonderful!
We dated this guitar from the FON stamped inside the guitar on the neck block. It starts with a T which indicates 1958 and has 6 numbers after that. See pic 7. The guitar also has the LG-1 designation inside the soundhole. See pic 6.
This guitar is all original to include the Single Line Kluson Deluxe Tuners, Bridge, nut, bridge pins and pickguard...There is one was Professionally repaired for a couple cracks next to the pickguard. See pics 8 and 9...They are properly glued and cleated as it should...No other cracks or breaks to report. Some scratches on the front and back. Some buckle rash...again, this guitar was a player..not a closet queen! Shows its time and grade well!
It didn't need much help from us... We cleaned it up and put a new set of 11 guage Phosphor Bronze Strings on it. Checked the truss rod and it works properly.
Heres some info from Reverb regarding these LG-1 Guitars..
During World War II, Gibson pared its flat-tops down to six standard models, the Gibson LG-1 acoustic guitar among them. As a student model, the LG-1 was introduced alongside the LG-2 and LG-3 to be a less expensive model that even younger players could afford. Because it was initially intended to be a lower-end guitar, the LG-1 uses ladder-style bracing and is made of a mahogany back with a spruce top.
The LG-1 was introduced along with the LG-2 and LG-3 as a lower-end student model during World War II. All three models were very similar, and the LG-1 featured Mahogany back and sides with a Spruce top. As a lower-end guitar, the LG-1 used lateral or ladder style bracing. Eventually, the LG series was supplanted by the B series as Gibson's main student-level acoustic flattop.
Years of Production: 1942, 1946 - 1968 (some shipped as late as 1974)
Wood Composition: Mahogany back and sides, Spruce top, Rosewood fingerboard
Design Elements: Dot inlays, lateral bracing, 24 3/4-inch scale length, long pointed pickguard, nut 1 11/16 inches
The biggest difference between the LG-0 and the LG-1 is the top woods. LG-0 used mahogany while the LG-1 has a Spruce top. Both utilized ladder bracing and the LG-2 had X-bracking. Only other diffeerence it the LG-1 has full front and back bindings while the LG-0 has no bindings..The Spruce top is beautiful and has a pretty good scratch and small dings and such. Beautiful Mahogany back and sides that have nice finish crazing...Check those pics!
The original Gibson Soft Shell Alligator Look case is as nice as the guitar...All the latches, hinges and original handle are still with it and operating properly.. See pics..Even the case accessory box is still with this guitar. No lid to the accessory box... The top end is a little loose and will need some attention... See pic 19... otherwise...What a great case for this historic Gibson Guitar!
Great guitar but used and vintage so it sold as is no returns. Thanks for respecting that.
