The movie ends by showing Landon four years after the incident. That callous, careless Landon is now attending medical school. One day he comes to visit his father-in-law and regrets that Jamie's greatest wish in life was to witness a miracle with his own eyes, as she wrote in his school magazine. But sadly Jamie did not miraculously get rid of his illness.
Jamie's father then said, "You don't understand, son. She actually got his miracle right. It was you."
