"Harnessing the Power of Distributed HTC" featuring Miron Livny, the John P. Morgridge Professor of Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, was originally hosted as a live webinar on Dec. 6, 2021.
Livny is introduced by CI Compass Principal Investigator Ewa Deelman.
Livny serves as the director of the Center for High Throughput Computing (CHTC), is leading the HTCondor Software Suite effort and serves as the technical director of the OSG. He is a member of the scientific leadership team of the Morgridge Institute of Research where he leads the Research Computing theme. During the webinar, Livny reviewed the principles that underpin the technologies and services of PAth and present the OSG Fabric of Distributed High Throughput Computing (dHTC) services. Examples of how these services have been used by different science collaborations to support their processing and data management requirements were discussed.
Abstract: "In a recent report, the National Academy of Science (NAS) recognized the growing impact of High Throughput Computing (HTC) on Scientific Discovery. Last year, the Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure (OAC) of the National Science Foundation launched the Partnership to Advance Throughput Computing (PATh) five years project. PATh brings together two entities – the UW-Madison Center for High Throughput Computing (CHTC) and the OSG Consortium. Both entities have a long history of providing technologies and services that enable researchers to significantly increase the throughput of their computational workloads. The capabilities offered by PATh have been adopted by projects ranging from a single PI to some of the largest international science collaborations."
