SECOND BART CAR PRESERVED: The Western Railway Museum is the new home to BART B2 Car 1834, a 52-year “veteran” of the legacy fleet. Originally built by Rohr as A car 120, it carried President Richard Nixon on September 27, 1972, only a few weeks after BART first started service. A few years later, the car was set on fire by an arsonist. It was stored but as part of the A to B conversion program, it found a second life as converted B car 834. (https://bartcars.weebly.com/a-to-b-co...) After many years of service, it was rebuilt into B2 car 1834 and lasted in service for another 20 years. It was last in service on April 20, 2024, the last run of the legacy fleet. It is the only B car to be preserved and after another B car is finished with some tests, it will be the only B car left in existence.
This is the second (of three) BART cars to join collection after several long years of planning and prep work and a tremendous amount of cooperation with BART.
