The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a network protocol that provides automatic IP addressing and other information to clients:
Subnet mask (IPv4) or prefix length (IPv6)
Default gateway address
DNS server address
Available for both IPv4 and IPv6.
