The first leg of our 6 week journey across all of China - a little lost, even after practicing in Shenzhen a few months prior. Nothing could have prepared me for EVERYTHING in Shanghai is under construction constantly! Halfway, we ran away to a tiny ancient village on the edge of Shanghai - Xinchang. It's far closer than Suzhou, and much easier to get to when staying in Pudong - far smaller and more crowded, but a perfect day trip (or two, like we did) if you need to escape the drilling.
