'Django's Tiger' Soloing Tips.
In this video lesson I want to teach you two ideas you can use when soloing over 'Django's Tiger'.
'Django's Tiger' is a really cool Django tune which is popular in gypsy jazz so well worth learning.
Soloing Ideas:
1. This is a classic and very logical idea both harmonically and rhythmically. Something that Louis Armstrong would play on his trumpet and Django on his guitar.
You can ad a nice bounce to this to swing it a bit and it sounds great! Right in the pocket and completely true to the harmony of A major.
The trick is to play it within your technical means so if the tempo is too fast too play eighth notes then play it using quarter notes.
2. When you play over the E7 & F7 you can play this really cool boppy lick. Make sure you learn this lick slowly by watching the video and rewinding as often as it takes to get it right.
A good tip when learning a new lick is just to loop it over and over until it's smooth.
Once you have these two licks down you'll see just how far they can go to help your soloing skills. Only add a new lick when the licks you know are already completely internalized and sounding awesome.
cheers!
Robin
