Trip to Zaanse Schans, Volendam & Marken - Amsterdam 2025

Hi All 👋

I booked us a 5 and a half hour coach trip to see the more rural parts of Amsterdam. The Dutch windmills, the countryside, the little fishing villages and of course, some Dutch clogs!

I booked this trip through booking.com. The pick up point was at Asmterdam Centraal station, bus platform B. We got on the double decker coach, were given some earphones for a guided gps tour, and away we went.

Stopping off 1st at Zaanse Schans windmills. Off the coach, for a walk past some lovely old windmills to our stop, the saw mill. The chap gave us a talk outside about the age of the windmill, what they do there and how they keep the windmill going. Inside, they were preparing a log to be cut, but it took them sometime to get it all set up.

Next stop, Volendam.
Here, we visited the Volendam Cheese Factory. A guy came on stage after we had all sat down, then described the process of making cheese. After that, we went upstiars to the shop part to try some lovely cheeses.

Whilst in Volendam, we went to the stroopwafel shop. It smelt delicious in there! Had a free sample, then bought a stroopwafel each, the white chocolate was soooo nice!

We then waited for the ferry that was included in our package, to take us to Marken. The ferry took out 30mins to cross to Marken Haven.

In Marken, we walked through the quaint little village to the clog making museum. Here, the guide talked us through and showed us how clogs are made. They also had a large shop that sold all shapes and sizes of clogs.

From there, we made our way back to the coach for the trip back to Centraal station.

We did the all inclusive tour which included the ferry cruise. Prices start from £31.64 for the basic tour.
