Lin Guan-hua was a student protestor opposed to the revised high school history curriculum. After his suicide on July 30, nearly a hundred students surrounded the Ministry of Education and demanded that Education Minister Wu Se-hwa resign. They also demanded that the new history curriculum be repealed. The following morning, the students said they would continue their protests outside the ministry until their demands are met.
反課綱學生林冠華驚傳自殺身亡，30號晚間近百名學生包圍教育部，要求教育部長吳思華下台,並且退回課綱。31號上午十點發出最後通諜,但是吳思華並未出面,學生們決定,要長期在教育部抗爭下去,並宣稱不排除有任何形式的抗議行動。
