BLACK-OUT : Valentina - Swinging and PS alongside Deurganckdok 1728, Antwerp

Shit happens. I had to dock all the way in the corner with a vessel of 178m long. I had to swing her around on arrival to dock PS to. The turn was pretty straightforward, but coming out of the turn I felt like something was off. The bow was not reacting as I thought it should have. Increasing power on the BT (bow thruster) wasn't having the desired effect and when I reduced the BT power, the bow gained more lateral speed. Looking at the requested BT power and the actual BT power I noticed some fluctuations. I asked the captain if everything was OK, and he confirmed everything was fine. I had to back up in the corner about 30m away from the wall. My aft tug would not be able to assist anymore when getting closer, so at one point you have to let go and have him push in the side. A disadvantage is that when your lateral speed approaching the quayside is too high, you can't have the tug reduce that speed, so you have to rely on your rudder and main engine. This can create some longitudinal speed, which in turn gets you out of your mooring position (exact position is important on a container terminal). And then at around 07:20 in the clip the ship has a black-out. Nothing to worry about. I'm sort of stationary or moving in the direction I want to anyway, so time to figure out what's going on. At around 08:05 I get back the engine, but the BT is unreliable. Then while closing on the quayside, the BT decides it's had enough for the day (around 10:07). The inertia of the ship is still moving me towards the quay, so I just see what happens. If I can get close enough, we can get a heaving line ashore and a mooring line and use those to heave her alongside. Which is what happens in the end. All moored. Time to go home
