We are playing the original Pokémon Red / Blue on the Game Boy. Whether you were Team Red (Charizard) or Team Blue (Blastoise), this is where the magic began.

📺 About This Game: Released internationally in the late 90s (originally 1996 in Japan), Pokémon Red and Blue are the role-playing games that introduced the world to the Kanto region. You play as a young trainer from Pallet Town with a massive goal: defeat the Gym Leaders, conquer the Elite Four, and complete the Pokédex.

🤔 What is the difference between Red & Blue? At first glance, the games look identical—the story, map, and gameplay are the same. However, the genius was in the exclusive Pokémon:

Pokémon Red had exclusives like Ekans, Oddish, Mankey, Growlithe, Scyther, and Electabuzz.

Pokémon Blue had exclusives like Sandshrew, Vulpix, Meowth, Bellsprout, Magmar, and Pinsir. To get all 150 (or 151!) Pokémon, you could not do it alone. You were forced to find a friend with the other version and trade!

⭐ Why It’s Famous & Important: This simple version difference created a social revolution.

The Link Cable Era: Before the internet, the Game Link Cable was the lifeline. It turned a solitary RPG into a social event, forcing kids to meet up, talk, and trade to complete their collections.

The Birth of a Franchise: This game launched the highest-grossing media franchise in history. Every card, movie, and app you see today owes its existence to this Game Boy cartridge.
