Flower farmer Georgie Newbery Gets on with the spring jobs in the garden despite pouring rain - pricking out seedlings and laying out dahlias in hot beds for sprouting takes a satisfying day.
There is nothing like pricking out seedlings to get you into a calm, meditative zone, and so if you, like Georgie, find the news overwhelming sometimes, then sow some seed so that in a few weeks you can prick the seedlings out, so that whatever happens on the world, there will be flowers in your back garden.
We've had a very balmy spring (so far!) with little frost, so the seedlings have got ahead. Sop Georgie takes her dahlia crop in her hands and sets them up to sprout in the greenhouse. She doesn't usually take this step, but this year... so see how she trays up twenty four different dahlias which she's had overwintering in the studio so that they can sprout and she can take cuttings from the sprouts.
Dahlias from rooted cuttings are known for being brighter coloured, larger flowered... We'll see how these ones do.
Georgie has an online dahlia workshop next Wednesday, March 16th 5pm gmt so do book a place there if you'd like to find out more about growing a five star dahlia patch to wow all your friends and customers. Here's the link https://www.commonfarmflowers.com/col...
