Kerala Blasters kicked off their Kalinga Super Cup with an emphatic 2-0 win over East Bengal on Sunday. David Catala's men were the better side from the get-go as the Blasters dominated proceedings. KBFC lined up in a surprising new formation, with Adrian Luna in a deeper role, Hormipam Ruivah at right-back, Vibin Mohanan at left midfield and Noah Sadaoui at right midfield.
Despite the change in approach, the idea was clear early on as Hormipam pinged a ball in behind East Bengal's defence for Noah. The winger squared the ball across goal but the onrushing Jesus Jimenez failed to put the final touch from close range in an agonising miss.
Jimenez's woes continued as he spurned multiple chances before Noah then won a penalty for KBFC. It was Jimenez who stepped up and he missed the initial kick before referee spotted Prabhsukhan Gill coming off the line to make the save. KBFC were allowed to retake the spot-kick and Jimenez ended up scoring.
Noah then added to the Blasters' advantage with an incredible long-range goal after cutting inside onto his weaker left foot from the right flank. KBFC had multiple chances to add to the scoreline, but failed to do it in the end.
KBFC fans will be happy with the 2-0 win and are now gearing up to face ISL champions Mohun Bagan Super Giants in the quarter-final this weekend. In this video, I have rated all the players from KBFC's starting XI for this game out of 10. Make sure you watch the video and share your ratings in the comments below.
