coulou's cafe trumpet meditations (no. 44)

hello my friends, sending you all hugs this week. hope everyone's doing alright out there, the magnolia tree outside my apartment is in full bloom right now and getting to look at it every day is really giving me life. this was a really lovely meditation experience, shoutout to my incredibly cool, kind, creative and generous friends max and jesse, your place is an oasis. the acoustics of this space really made the flugelhorn sound so ethereal, it was a real joy playing here. this meditation came a few days late this week because i was traveling with my friend and my parents out in mexico city. it was wonderful and i probably bought too many new plates and cups but i love them so its fine (do what makes you happy ya know). my parents live on the other side of the county so i really dont get to see them as much as i'd like to, but i'm actually still really close to them. i grew up in a pretty loud and chaotic but very loving household. im a middle child with two sisters about a year above and below me. my mom is a badass lawyer who runs an innocence project representing so many voiceless people lost in our unjust prison system who are serving life sentences for crimes they did not commit (someone needs to write a book or a movie about her cause the stories of the things she's done are out of this world). andddd my dad is an ER doctor so he's literally just out saving lives everyday. both my sisters are super successful, one in film and the other one is in law school right now. they all inspire me so much and are all really good good humans. it was a loud loud house growing up, a lot of pressure to be really good in school (unfortunately, as much as i really did try, my brain did not comply with the school system), and a lotttt of fighting (but all good now we love each other a lot and got through some hard times and i think we are all better off because of it). buttttt all this being said, my relationship with my family 99% of the time these days is really controlled because its all phone calls and texts. and at this age the people and places i surround myself with are light years more peaceful than the non stop anxiety i felt for the majority of my adolescent years growing up. a lot of times i really do feel a sense of pride in the ways i feel like i have grown as a human. im still a total mess, but i can really appreciate the path im on. sooo back to mexico and spending a week with my parents. there's this ram das quote that is so so real where he says, "if you think you're enlightened, go spend a week with your family." its just so interesting how the people we love the most, we struggle so much to have patience for, we can be so easily impacted by them. and the reality is, if you didn't know your family members at all your capacity for understanding and patience would grow one hundred fold in an instant. it was still such a beautiful time to get to spend with them, im so grateful always to have that time, but i can't help but be so aware about this very interesting peculiarity of humans. like if you raise a dog, that animal will have endless unconditional love for you every second of every day throughout its life, but the ways i've seen a twelve year old yell at their parents omygawd. welp thats my totally random thought this week, not sure if it resonates with you or made any sense at all, but if you read this far i hope you at least enjoyed the story. thanks again as always for all the love and support and community, you're all the best and i love you. i've got lots more fun projects going on right now that i'm excited to share. for now, wherever you are. i hope you have a beautiful and present moment at some point today. a grounding little check in that reminds you that you are a completely mind blowing existence on a rock flying through space and this rock tends to get beautiful sunsets and flowers that bloom briefly once a year and make us feel so many things. okee thats all. here's a link to some music i'd love for you to check out. also i have merch and i ship it out every week myself :)
