I'm not claiming this is the only way to restore such a sword and many might say just leave it alone, but it is in very sad condition.
This is an attempt to return it to a condition that the current owner can enjoy a little more than just looking at a sad wreck.
Everyone collects for different reasons and condition is a major part of the consideration in the process of buying.
Maintaining a decent representation of the item is also important. And finally its about the respect you hold for the item; would the original owner feel happy keepeing it in such a bad condition. I suspect not. The trooper would be proud of the sword he carried and all it stood for.
