Verse 1 – Meaning

I worship Kāla Bhairava, the Lord of Kashi,
whose pure lotus feet are served by the king of the gods,
who wears serpents as sacred threads, bears the moon upon His head,
is the embodiment of compassion, praised by Nārada and great yogis,
the sky-clad ascetic and supreme guardian of Kashi.

Verse 2 – Meaning

I worship Kāla Bhairava,
who shines like millions of suns,
who ferries beings across the ocean of worldly existence,
the blue-throated, three-eyed Lord,
the destroyer of Death itself, eternal and imperishable.

Verse 3 – Meaning

I worship Kāla Bhairava,
who holds the trident, axe, noose, and staff,
the primal cause, dark-hued, free from all afflictions,
the Lord of terrifying valor,
who delights in the mystic cosmic dance.

Verse 4 – Meaning

I worship Kāla Bhairava,
the giver of both worldly enjoyment and liberation,
whose form is noble and beautiful,
who is deeply affectionate to devotees and pervades all worlds,
whose golden waist-bells resonate with divine sound.

Verse 5 – Meaning

the protector of Dharma and destroyer of unrighteous paths,
the liberator from karmic bondage, bestower of true peace,
whose radiant golden body is adorned with sacred serpents.

Verse 6 – Meaning

whose feet shine with the splendor of jeweled sandals,
the eternal, peerless, pure, and beloved deity,
who crushes the arrogance of Death
and is adorned with fearsome, awe-inspiring fangs.

Verse 7 – Meaning

whose thunderous laughter shatters cosmic shells,
whose mere glance destroys vast accumulations of sin,
the stern ruler who grants the eight mystic powers (siddhis),
and who wears a garland of skulls.

Verse 8 – Meaning

I worship Kāla Bhairava,
the leader of all spirit beings, giver of immense glory,
who purifies the sins and merits of those residing in Kashi,
the ancient Lord, knower of righteous paths,
and ruler of the entire universe.
