This is my cover of the amazing saxophone solo by Brandon Fields on Pat Kelley's tune "The Right Time" off of the album "Views of the Future."
I do not own this music. This video is for educational purposes only.
The first thing I like about this solo is the way Brandon navigates the changes. It begins with a quasi chromatic-polychord progression that is very catchy, and then turns into something of a funky ii-V7-I with a bit of "third-relation" thrown in for good measure. I wanted some ideas for how to play these changes, so learning Brandon's line really gave me a solid understanding of how to approach the changes.
The second thing I like is that run about half way through - it was a REAL challenge! It's 32nd notes at MM=96, which is about 16ths @ MM=192 . . .. way fast! There was no way to do it "non-legato" so I knew my right hand wouldn't have much to do, but the left hand had so many notes to cram into 2 beats, and the notes were spread over 5 strings and 2 positions, it really took me a while to come up with a fingering that would actually work.
I hope you enjoy this cover! Please "LIKE," subscribe, and click the BELL, thanks!
