Today we took the VW Golf 8 GTE for an snow POV Drive. The new car price is 45.000€.
The VW Golf 8 GTE is a hybrid car that means that it has two engines, it has a normal petrol engine with 150HP & 250Nm and it also has an electric engine with 95HP, so the HP of the two engines are combined and delivers 245HP & 400Nm with both engines. In our opinion, the 245 hp of the VW Golf 8 GTE are more than enough for the car.

The VW Golf 8 GTE has a Transmission 6-Speed Automatic Double clutch DSG gearbox. The gear shifts are very aggressive you can feel it when you drive in SPORT MODE but when you try to drive normal the gears are super soft. Also when you hit a paddle on your steering wheel it shifts directly. The VW Golf 8 GTE is powered by a front-wheel-drive System.

Let's take a look at the VW Golf 8 GTE fuel consumption. According to factory specifications, the manufacturers promise that the combined fuel consumption is 1.1l For a 1.4l 4 Cyinder hybrid engine with 245hp this is a very low consumption. But the driving style plays a big role, because if you drive sporty you can never keep the prescribed manufacturer consumption. Further information is that the tank volume includes 39,5 litres which is small.
With a full tank, the VW Golf GTE reaches 600 kilometres. It has an electric capacity of 13 kWh and has a range of 62km.

According to the factory, the Golf 8 GTE accelerates from 0-100 in 6,7 seconds, which is very impressive for 245hp, considering that the GTE is very heavy at 1624kg. From our own experience we can confirm that the acceleration feels much faster. The Golf GTE needs 16,6 seconds from 100-200 and 23,3 seconds from 0-200.

The top speed of the Golf 8 GTE is 225km/h which is not very impressive for a car with 245hp. The wind noise at higher speeds are just not to be heard.

The Golf 8 GTE suspension is Amazing. The suspension can be changed in the different driving modes. In sport mode it is hard and stiffer and you have more feeling for the road and bumps, the car starts to bounce a little. In comfort mode, the suspension changes to soft, so you don't feel as much of the road. The handling in curves is perfect, because you can drive even at high speeds in sharp curves without understeering or oversteering.

The size of the VW Golf 8 GTE is 4,2m in length and includes a width of 1,7m, which has the ideal vehicle size, which is too small for daily use. This can be compared to a Audi A3 & Audi S3.

In our opinion the Golf 8 GTE is one of the best looking modern hybrid cars which was ever built. What do you say?
