Backstory:
M!Y/N was born on a small, peaceful island in the Grand Line. He was a single child who lived with his parents. His father was a former pirate but gave his pirate life up to stay with his family. However, when his father’s old crew got attacked by powerful pirates, the captain of that crew found out that M!Y/N’s father was the holder of a powerful devil fruit. The devil fruit allows its user to control minds. With this information, the crew attacked the island and took over it. M!Y/N’s parents fought back until the father was threatened that they would kill M!Y/N if he didn’t hand over the fruit. But then, they all found out that M!Y/N actually ate the fruit and gained its power. M!Y/N’s father tried to attack the pirates to buy time for M!Y/N to escape but was killed in the process while M!Y/N was taken. Still not being able to fully control his powers, the captain took advantage of the child and forced him into the crew— threatening to take the life of his mother if he didn’t listen to him. 

AU: 
The straw hats came across the island while looking for new ingredients to restock for their adventure. However, they were shocked to see the state that the village was in. The village was filled with terrified people and pirates laughing, doing what they wanted. They were about to step in but were stopped by a child (M!Y/N). M!Y/N dragged them into an alleyway and told them about how a powerful pirate crew controlled the village and that they should leave the village as soon as possible. However, the straw hats ignored his warning and Luffy asked for food. Dumbfounded, M!Y/N decided to help feed them in hopes that they would leave after eating. He led the crew to his home, where they were greeted by his mother, who kindly offered them food. As they ate, a sudden, aggressive pounding on the door interrupted their meal. From outside, an enemy pirate shouted for M!Y/N to come out. M!Y/N quickly opened the door, closing it just as fast to keep the Straw Hats out of sight. From inside, the crew could hear the tense conversation. The pirate delivered the message: the captain had ordered M!Y/N to meet with him. 

After a moment of hesitation, M!Y/N reluctantly agreed. Once the pirate left, M!Y/N returned inside, his face clouded with seriousness and hidden worry.

“Mother, I’ll go now,” M!Y/N said with a false smile on his face before turning to Luffy and the straw hats. “And please sail safely, you guys.” 
He waved goodbye to them, unaware that Luffy had no intention of leaving. Sensing that something was off, Luffy silently resolved to help the child who had been kind enough to give them food. Determined to get to the bottom of things, the crew approached his mother, asking her what had happened. Reluctant at first, she shared the story—though she carefully omitted any mention of the Devil Fruit, unsure if she could fully trust these pirates just yet.
