France has finished 3rd seven times at Eurovision (most recently in 1981), more than any other country.
There is no official 3rd place for three of the contests – 1956, 1969, and 1990. In 1956 only the winner, Switzerland, was announced. In 1969, four songs shared first place by achieving the same number of points. In 1990, two songs shared second place by achieving the same number of points.
