The leaf problem is caused by a combination of a pest infestation and environmental or nutrient stress.
What is the cause for this Pink discoloration visible on the Tulsi ocimum plant leaf?
1. Pigment called anthocyanin?
2.various stresses, including a lack of phosphorus?
3. Pest infestation (spider mites)?
4. Powdery mildew (a common fungal plant disease)?
5. Fusarium wilt?
Friends please suggest what causes this?
The leaf problem was most likely caused by an infestation of spider mites, tiny arachnid pests that feed on plant cell contents.
Common Signs of Spider Mite Damage
Stippling: The white or yellow dots visible on the leaf surface are a result of the mites piercing individual plant cells to suck out the sap. This damage is permanent on the affected leaves.
Webbing: While not clearly visible in this specific photo, a tell-tale sign of a severe spider mite infestation is the presence of fine, silky webbing, usually on the undersides of leaves and between stems.
Appearance of Mites: The mites themselves are very small (about 1/50th of an inch) and look like tiny moving dots to the naked eye. They typically live in colonies on the undersides of leaves.
Spider mites thrive in hot, dry conditions and can reproduce very rapidly, with a generation completing in as little as a week in favorable weather.
The purple discoloration visible on the leaf strongly suggests a phosphorus deficiency or environmental stress, which can be exacerbated by pest damage, rather than solely a spider mite infestation.
The purple/reddish tint is caused by an accumulation of a pigment called anthocyanin, which the plant produces in response to various stresses, including a lack of phosphorus.
