Castle-owning nom-dom defends leaving the UK to pay less tax | LBC

As new non-dom laws come in, Tom Swarbrick asks castle-owning, nom-dom, self-made multi-millionaire, Dr Ann Kaplan Mulholland, why she's choosing to leave the UK to pay less tax.

From 6th April 2025, the UK will scrap tax breaks based on domicile status and the remittance basis, replacing them with a residence-based system.

New UK residents will get full tax relief on foreign income and gains for their first four years, as long as they haven’t lived in the UK for the previous 10 years.

Dr Mulholland insists she loves the UK and “doesn’t want to leave,” but says the new rules mean “nobody in [her] position would stay.”

She acknowledges that “no one needs that much money,” but argues it would be a “poor business decision” to remain in the country.
