Full Route Visual | London Bus Route 108 - Lewisham to Stratford International | (SEe16) LJ66CFP

Another River Thames crossing route that I've always wanted to try out from the moment I started YouTube is the 108. A significant route that connects South East London to the North East through the rather old, unreliable Blackwall Tunnel.

This 24 hour route is operated by Go Ahead London - London Central from New Cross [NX] Garage using Enviro200EV's in the daytime; running from Lewisham, Blackheath, Westcombe Park, Greenwich, North Greenwich, Blackwall Tunnel, Poplar, All Saints, Langdon Park, Devons Road, Bow, Bow Church, London Aquatics Centre, Stratford City & Stratford International.

Thankfully, this was my first attempt in filming this. I've seen many enthusiasts re-attempting this route due to the constant overcrowding on the route and heavy traffic along the Blackwall Tunnel. So because of this, I decided to make my way to Lewisham at 6AM on a Saturday morning to get this done. For this, I would like to thank the amazing driver for allowing me to film at the front because without him, this video wouldn't have been possible at all.

I really miss the BD09/59 MEC Citaro's the route had. They really suited the route a lot. The reason why I didn't film this on a Citaro, is because of the weird-blocked camera angle and I wanted the quality to be nice, not like when I did 232 last year. So I waited for the route to be re-routed Southbound and for the route to have a full EV allocation to do so.

At first when the route got it's EV's from 507 & 521 in Spring 2023, they were so unreliable. They would break down every single time and it would even be a miracle if they ran to the last stop of the route. That's why the Citaro's got to stay for another like 2 years or so (almost); which was good. But now, their reliability has actually improved and I like these on the 108 a lot because they look nice and suit. But Citaro's are obviously better.

The 108 is the only London bus route to run underneath the Blackwall Tunnel which is good. I don't see TFL making another route to run underneath the BT as bus services suffer already enough and it would make things worse imo. When the tunnel closed every now and then, the route gets split between Canning Town and North Greenwich. But now since the Silvertown Tunnel is here, I believe that the route can now divert through that tunnel now; so that's good.

The route also runs a DOUBLE DECKER bus service called the 108D. A night service similar to the 108 but from Camberwell [Q] Garage using Enviro400EV's. It runs between North Greenwich Bus Station and Lewisham Bus Station, primarily catering to increased passenger demand following events at The O2 arena.

I feel like Transport For London should scrap 108D; and instead discontinue the 24 hour service of the 108. They should keep the daytime route of 108 as it is through the Blackwall Tunnel. What they should do is create a double decker service called the N108: From Lewisham to Stratford International via the same route to North Greenwich. Then make it go through the Silvertown Tunnel. Then make it go along Poplar back to it's daily route and then through Chrisp Street and Bow Church, Stratford Bus Station, looping around Stratford City and then Stratford International. The only challenges with that is that the route would have to skip the London Aquatics Centre and Carpenters Road; due to the height restriction of the low bridge.
