Two South Jersey nursing homes are facing serious allegations of financial misconduct and neglect after a state investigation found they inflated rent prices, deliberately understaffed their facilities and pocketed tens of millions of dollars while residents lived in what officials described as “deplorable conditions.”
The findings come from a report released by Acting State Comptroller Kevin Walsh, who is urging New Jersey lawmakers to strengthen disclosure requirements at for-profit nursing homes. Walsh argues that greater transparency is needed to track how public funds, particularly Medicaid dollars, are spent and to ensure they are actually supporting patient care.
