Ford 9N Engine Rebuild Part 3
Hello everyone, and welcome back!
Today you’ll see me perform a brake job—changing the brakes and applying sure seals to the rear axles. In a nutshell, here’s what I did:
The fender and tires were removed by using an engine hoist to support the rear axle. Springs and pads were in good shape, but oil had definitely accumulated onto the old pads. Note: The assistance of brake pliers may be necessary to get the springs back on. I spaced the brake tabs equally for a good shoe fit. After packing the wheel bearings with Lucas grease, I then used sure seals inside the hub to prevent any leaks from getting onto the brakes and cleaned out the drum assembly before adding the new brakes. Afterwards, I put the brake assembly back into the axle, placed the axle back into the trumpet housing and repeated the whole process on the other side.
