Epic React 2 vs. Odyssey React 2

On paper, the Epic React 2 and the Odyssey React 2 are very similar shoes. Same heel drop. Same midsole. Flyknit uppers. But the Odyssey React just seems to be a bit less of everything compared to the Epic React. Less React. Less flynit. So at $150 vs $120, is the Odyssey React just a budget version of the Epic React? I think not.

The Odyssey React feels very similar to the Epic React, which makes sense, due to the React foam. But the way that there's less React foam results in a shoe that seems a bit more streamlined. The angle of attack was reminiscent of the Pegasus 35 in that it seems to encouraged shorter strides and faster turnover for a higher cadence. The Odyssey React seems to want a be run a bit faster than the Epic React.

And so, there are two ways to look at these two shoes. The Odyssey just might be a gateway shoe between Nike's more traditional running shoes and the uniqueness of the Epic React. But because of how it reminds me of the Pegasus 35, the Odyssey React just might be the shoe for those who like how Nike running shoes feel but don't like the sensation from Zoom Air.
