She had only lost four times in the past two years, and was going for the calendar grand slam at the 1988 US Open. At the age of 19, Steffi cruised through the competition, defeating Garbiela Sabatini 6-3 3-6 6-1 in the finals. Mere weeks later, Graf defeated Sabatini once again in the gold medal match at the Seoul Olympics, becoming the only person to complete the calendar "Golden Slam."
