Smaller diameter brake booster and deleting ABS on an E30; Year of the E30 Series Ep5

Today we show you how we installed a smaller diameter brake booster and deleted the ABS on our 1986 BMW 325ES.

Booster Modification:
The factory booster from this year is almost 11" (10.7" roughly), and the booster we sourced was from a 1989 Volkswagen Jetta that measures 9.5" in diameter. This extra inch of clearance made all the difference with exhaust and turbo clearances on the SR20DET swap!

It should be noted that this brake booster appears to be compatible with many of the VW models from that era (MK2), but we recommend that you do your research first if you try another model and year. The link above is the exact component we used and confirm that it fit great.
In order to use this booster you will need to cut and rethread the shaft on the Volkswagen booster, BUT the shaft diameter is the same as the E30, so all you need is a M8x1.25 tap and a hacksaw or cut-off wheel.
VERY IMPORTANT - (NOT COVERED IN VIDEO, UPDATES FOUND IN VIDEO LINK BELOW) We discovered the Jetta booster leaves a gap in the booster pin to master cylinder clearance. To remedy this you can follow the same steps we take to resolve this issue in this video:


ABS Delete:
Removal of the ABS is done at your discretion and Dad Mods accepts no liability for modification to your brake system.
We have observed an improvement in the brake's consistency since the removal of Donnie's ABS system which was kicking on at random.
The deletion of this system is achieved by bypassing the ABS unit and lines, and removing the whole mess. You will need to pick up new lines and do flares.

We recommend copper lines for ease of bending in the tight areas. Use caution that these lines will kink if you over-do it.
To remove the ABS unit you will only need to unbolt it and remove the electrical connector. It is all very straight forward.
