Inhomogeneous cooling as a result of differences in wall thickness may introduce Residual Stresses in a casting. Residual stresses and related distortion is arising from constraints such as mold hardness and the elastic/plastic behavior of the alloy being cast. The Distortion of this casting has been exaggerated 25 times.
