Another Amazing Indiana Video! Today we tour the Levi Coffin House in Fountain City, Indiana. Levi Coffin was an abolitionist and a "Conductor" on the Underground Railroad. Coffin and his wife, Catherine were responsible for over 2,000 enslaved people finding their freedom from slavery.
The Coffin's house is described as "The Union Station" of the Indiana branch of the Underground Railroad. In the house you can view places were the enslaved people were given compassionate shelter.
The Levi Coffin House sits next to an interruptive center that tells the story of the abolitionist movement in Indiana. The center also includes a history of slavery in the United States.
Before touring the house, visitors can view a movie about Levi Coffin.
The historical site would be a great place for families and home schoolers to visit.
Included in this program is the large mural in Fountain City take depicts the work of Levi and Catherine Coffin.
